I have been using an iPhone for over two and a half years. During that time, I have tested literally hundreds of applications. In this article, I would like to tell you about two of my favorite music apps, Shazam and Pandora.
Shazam is an application that uses the iPhone’s Spa Music built-in microphone to “listen” to a 15-second clip of music. Then it sends this clip over the cellular network and in a few seconds it tells you the name of the song, the album and the artist. I love this app and use it all the time. Two of my favorite places to use it are when I’m in the car or at a restaurant and I hear a song that I can’t quite place. Instead of arguing with my friends about who the artist is, I let my iPhone tell me.
The other app that is awesome is Pandora. This program reveals new musical artists that you may never have heard of by “learning” your musical tastes. Pandora will play a song for you, and you can give the song a thumbs up or a thumbs down. Over time, the app learns what kind of music you like so it can give you song after song of the music you like. When I find a new artist that I like, I can go to YouTube or iTunes to listen to more of her songs. It’s great!
The iPhone can be a powerful tool to help you identify and discover new music that you might never have been aware of otherwise. If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch, you should check out these free apps.
